Overview
Cryoablation is a minimally invasive treatment that uses extreme cold to destroy cancer cells. It is an option for patients with small kidney tumors who may not be candidates for major surgery.
The Procedure
A thin needle (probe) is inserted through the skin and into the tumor, guided by imaging (CT or ultrasound). Gas is passed through the probe to freeze the tumor tissue, killing the cancer cells.
