Overview
Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) are common in older adults. Symptoms can be atypical, sometimes presenting as confusion or falls rather than pain.
Causes
Incomplete bladder emptying, catheter use, menopause (in women), and enlarged prostate (in men) are common risk factors.
Management
Prevention
Hydration, local estrogen (for women), and treating underlying retention.
Treatment
Targeted antibiotics based on culture results to avoid resistance.
