Catheterization involves inserting a flexible tube into the bladder to drain urine. It is used when the bladder cannot empty on its own due to obstruction (like BPH) or nerve damage.
Types
Indwelling (Foley)
A catheter that stays in place for a period of time, draining into a bag.
Intermittent (CIC)
Inserting a catheter only when needed to empty the bladder, then removing it.
