Overview
Retrograde ejaculation occurs when semen enters the bladder instead of emerging through the penis during orgasm. Although you still reach sexual climax, you may ejaculate very little or no semen.
Symptoms
- Very little or no semen ejaculated during orgasm (dry orgasm)
- Urine that is cloudy after orgasm (because it contains semen)
- Male infertility
Causes
Common causes include surgery (such as bladder neck or prostate surgery), side effects of certain medications (for high blood pressure or mood disorders), or nerve damage caused by diabetes or multiple sclerosis.
Treatment
Medications
Drugs such as pseudoephedrine or imipramine can help keep the bladder neck muscle closed during ejaculation.
Fertility Treatments
If infertility is a concern, sperm can be retrieved from the urine or testicles for use in assisted reproductive techniques.
