Overview

A semen analysis, also known as a sperm count test, analyzes the health and viability of a man's sperm. It is the most important initial test for male infertility.

What We Measure

  • Sperm Count: The number of sperm in the sample.
  • Motility: The percentage of sperm that are moving.
  • Morphology: The shape and size of the sperm.
  • Volume: The amount of semen produced.

Preparation

You will be asked to abstain from ejaculation for 2 to 5 days before the test to ensure the most accurate results.

Results

Results are typically available within a few days. Your doctor will explain what the numbers mean for your fertility and discuss any necessary next steps.
