Overview
Testicular Sperm Aspiration (TESA) is a procedure to retrieve sperm directly from the testicles. It is used when sperm is not present in the ejaculate (azoospermia).
Indications
It is recommended for men with blockages (like after a vasectomy) or problems with sperm production. The retrieved sperm is used for In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) or ICSI.
The Procedure
A fine needle is inserted into the testicle to aspirate fluid and tissue containing sperm. It is a quick procedure usually performed under local anesthesia.
Recovery
Recovery is rapid, with most men returning to normal activities within a day. Mild discomfort or swelling can be managed with over-the-counter pain medication.
