Overview
Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP) is a minimally invasive treatment for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). It uses a high-powered laser to remove tissue that is blocking urine flow.
How it Works
The surgeon inserts a resectoscope through the urethra. A laser is used to separate the excess prostate tissue from the outer capsule. The tissue is then pushed into the bladder and removed using a morcellator.

Recovery
Patients typically stay in the hospital overnight. A catheter is used for a short period (usually less than 24 hours). Most men experience immediate improvement in urinary flow.
